Welcome to Antarktis
For the band ANTARKTIS, I developed the full visual identity and physical media packaging for their debut album "Welcome to Antarktis", spanning vinyl, CD, and cassette formats. The design captures the central themes of the album—melting polar landscapes, isolation, and environmental fragility—through a typographic and graphic system that mimics the visual language of melting ice and shifting glacial forms.
The project was featured on Design Made in Germany and stands as an example of how visual design can echo and amplify the conceptual layers of an album. It blurs the line between editorial design, typography, and environmental storytelling—inviting listeners to not just hear but feel the fragility of the world the music evokes.
At the core of the visual identity is a custom type treatment that liquefies letterforms into flowing, wave-like distortions. This motif is used consistently across all media formats and creates a strong, recognizable graphic element that reflects both the album’s title and its sonic atmosphere. The use of distorted typography extends to track listings, lyrics, and logotypes, creating a unified visual rhythm that mimics movement through fluid or frozen environments.
The color palette—predominantly white, black, and a deep glacial blue—references the natural tones of Antarctica, while evoking a sense of cold, remoteness, and emotional depth. The blue vinyl pressings and cassette shells act as bold, tactile extensions of the visual concept, making the packaging feel immersive and collectible.
Additional elements include an insert booklet featuring lyrics set in expressive layouts, a bold typographic front label for the cassette, and a black-and-white abstract ice structure as the main cover artwork—designed to resemble a cross-section of melting terrain or drifting sea ice.
