顔>.<臉 KAO&LIAN
As part of a planned exhibition on CJK scripts, I explored the writing systems of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean through a series of experimental works. Using p5.js, I created both interactive and static pieces that highlight the graphic diversity and cultural depth of CJK characters.
One of the central themes in my initial studies was a comparative investigation of the characters for the word “face” in Japanese (顔) and Mandarin Chinese (臉). By pairing these characters with images and video recordings of real human faces, I visualized their interaction and layered meaning. This approach creates a dialogue between language and image on both an emotional and aesthetic level, while also emphasizing the cultural distinctions embedded in the two graphemes.
