花 (HUĀ)

This project combines generative coding in p5.js with post-processing in Adobe Illustrator to create a typographic visual interpretation of "花" (Hua, "Flower") by the Taiwanese band Hello Nico.

The artwork translates lyrical fragments into an abstract typographic landscape. Each line of the song is rendered on a floating paper-like surface, layered and staggered to simulate both emotional complexity and visual rhythm. The composition evokes a sense of disorientation and fragmentation—reflecting the melancholic, introspective tone of the track.

Chinese characters are carefully arranged using vertical and horizontal grid logic, and a limited color palette of black, white, and soft blue enhances both legibility and atmospheric depth. The handwritten appearance of certain glyphs and subtle shifts in type size contribute to the feeling of memory, distance, and longing—recurring motifs in the song.

The deliberate use of a square format lends the piece the visual structure and balance of a single cover, while also allowing the modular elements to function as part of a potential visual identity for the full album or band branding.

By blending algorithmic composition with editorial sensibility, this work aims to bridge the gap between code-based design and music-inspired visual storytelling.
