DESCRIPTION

This was a small but enjoyable project to practice biscriptual typesetting. Fukui Prefecture holds a special place in my heart, not least because of its connection to dinosaurs, which I’ve loved since childhood. My friend’s son, who just turned six and feels like a nephew to me, shares that fascination.

小さなプロジェクトでしたが、2書体組版の練習としてとても楽しいものでした。福井県は、私にとって特別な場所です。子どもの頃から恐竜が大好きだった私にとって、恐竜と深く関わるこの土地には、特別な親しみがあります。ちょうど6歳になった友人の息子もまた恐竜に夢中で、まるで甥のような存在です。

For this poster, I combined the bold Japanese characters 恐竜 (kyōryū, “dinosaur”—literally “dreadful dragon”) with a more understated Latin sans serif. The triceratops head is set in a lush green, evoking images of prehistoric creatures wandering through dense vegetation. The large characters, especially 竜 (“dragon”), have a vertical rhythm that evokes the image of a skeleton, which adds to the sense of these magnificent animals once roaming the land.

このポスターでは、力強い日本語の文字「恐竜」と、控えめな印象のラテン書体のサンセリフ体を組み合わせました。トリケラトプスの頭部は深い緑で描かれ、太古の生き物が茂みに分け入っていた情景を想起させます。特に「竜」の字は、骨格のような縦のリズムを持ち、その形が恐竜たちの存在感をいっそう際立たせています。かつてこの地を歩んでいたであろう巨大で美しい生物たちへの想像が、静かに広がっていきます。
